Risk Management for Retirement Funds
Retirement funds are a significant player in the South African economy. With so much at stake for members of funds and the investments made by retirement funds, governance has become an integral part of our lives. It is even more important as a result of the organisations and the environment in which we operate becoming increasingly more complex, and given the illicit activities of some corporates and their executives which resulted in severe losses for their retirement funds and investors.

The course is designed to:
- Build upon the understanding on the background of governance developments,
- Build upon the understanding of the requirements of PF130 in ensuring high standards of retirement funds,
- Introduce trustees to good governance, understanding the key principles for good governance and the impact of these for trustees of retirement funds,
- Understand the issues to consider in managing a fund’s risks, to ensure a culture of high governance principles.

The course consists of 5 modules and will take approximately 8 hours of learning time to complete, including assessments and exercises.Â

This course does not tell trustees how to run their own funds but is rather intended as a resource, allowing boards to determine how best to apply the principles, lessons and guides as part of their risk management strategy.
